OUR MISSION:: GC Church is a local church in the North West area of Oakland County, Michigan whose mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Where does this mission come from?
Matthew 22:36-40
36 "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" 37 Jesus said to him, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 The second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."
It’s a process. it’s the way Jesus taught it and modeled it. It’s loving God and then loving others. It’s Jesus saying, deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow me. Then I’ll transform you into fishers of men (make you into disciples who are growing and maturing in their relationship with the Father as expressed through visible fruit in your life.)
Matthew 28:19-20
Acts: 1:8 and the rest of that book shows us that: We start this process where we live and then move out from there. We start locally and then grow globally - this biblical strategy uses a growing/maturing community to make it happen.
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth."
OUR DESIGN:: You could imagine a design that functions like a home. We invite guests to our foyer, develop friendships in our living room, and grow as a family around the kitchen table.
Where does this model come from?
From descriptions of the church in the New Testament: It’s family, home, a community modeled by the early church with the potential for warmth and unity; even the first meeting places were homes.
This model has been forsaken, as history shows us, and replaced with entertainment, a building, a ceremony, even just a 1-2X a week event. That can easily become an organization over an organism and have the potential for coldness and superficial growth.
We don’t desire that. We desire to walk in and by the Spirit to change that. After all, if you know God through faith in Jesus Christ, Christ is in you and you are in Him. That’s gotta be different.
